How many sockets can i run off a spur

As this junction box is fused, would it be possible to run | a small ring in the shed of perhaps 4 double sockets? You can run 4 sockets off a *fused* spur. Welcome to my tutorial on installing a spur socket to a ring final lot more to come and there will be something that will help you out. In new construction cables can be run behind flat steel shields which are pinned to the The Building Regulations now require that power sockets must be.|#|
A 30amp junction box should be used on a ring or radial circuit feeding sockets only. The junction box must be fixed solidly to a suitable surface and must not just "float around suspended by the cables it joins.

The cables to and from any spurs you connect must be protected by a conduit of some kind; be it on the surface or buried in the wall. If you bury cables in the wall they must only run vertically, not horizontally. Cables may be placed in floor or ceiling voids but not amidst, or wrapped in, insulation where they may become too hot. Please also check the rules very carefully for ring mains and radial circuits.

You are limited in the length of cable you are allowed to use in both circuits and long spurs could make you exceed the limit.

If this is the case you are asking the circuit to use much more energy than the circuit is designed for. Adding a Spur to an Existing Socket Warning: To complete electrical works you must comply with Electrical Regulations — Click here for more information. Please be absolutely sure you know what you are doing and get all of your work checked by a qualified electrician Very often we find we do not have enough sockets at home. The number of points allowed off each type spur differ…. Non-fused spur can only have one twin socket or one fixed appliance and a fused spur can have as many sockets as you require but care should be taken to ensure that the total load does not exceed the 13A fuse within the switched or unswitched-fused connection unit.

This 13A max load may be okay in a conservatory but not in the kitchen. DIYnot Forums. Wiring multiple sockets on fused spur - what is the electrician calculating? Hi, My house was built last year and came with a double socket in the garage, on a spur connected through the wall to the kitchen see "original" below. Last edited: 3 Oct Justin0 , 3 Oct It is protected by the 13A fuse.

Your attempt 1 IS a radial. Although I agree about the JBs. You could have wired from socket to socket. EFLImpudence , 3 Oct Thanks for the reply. When you say "socket to socket" do you mean I could still have branched out from them that is one socket then splits to two more sockets etc.

Because the reason I was branching, rather than going in a single line, was to reduce the length of the cable. Now I've gone socket to socket "attempt 2" the length from first to last is almost 30m. Any arrangement, really. Perhaps one JB at the start. Thanks x 1. Nothing actually wrong with three JBs.
