The Artyologist. Thank you, Suzanne, great tip. In the summer here it can be very wet and leather stinks of mould. I use clove oil in water, wipe over the garment and air outside. Oh my gosh! Karen on Dec 07, However, weeks and months of running to work or enjoying nights out with friends have left the inside of your suede shoes looking, and smelling, less than fabulous.

Avoid staining or damaging the inside of your suede shoes, boots or slippers by removing any excess moisture and deodorizing with safe, inexpensive products. Soak any moisture from inside the suede shoes with paper towels or washcloths, if the shoes are wet.

Never use a hairdryer to dry suede shoes, as this will cause damage or shrinkage. Either dab at the excess moisture before allowing the suede to dry out, or shove balls of paper towels into the shoes and allow them to soak up the excess.

Either way, allow the suede shoes to dry overnight. Sprinkle a light coating of baking soda or talcum powder inside the shoes. Both products soak up excess liquid and odors from inside shoes. Allow the talcum powder or baking soda to remain for at least eight hours, or overnight. Flip the shoes upside down and shake them to remove the excess loose powder or baking soda.
